Gaining popularity in 2006+ era, pure electric vehicles are based on batteries, capacitors / fuel cells or a hybrid combination of them, and therefore present a big step for an automotive industry. Pure electric vehicles are an unstoppable evolution, favored by all advanced countries and supported by expensive oil. The main technical issues regarding further development are the lighter, more powerful, more efficient and cheaper propulsion systems, and new, more flexible designs. Unfortunately current solutions duplicate traditional propulsion configurations with gears and mechanical transmissions to some extent, and do not use all the technological benefits, we already have.  Transition to electric propulsion offers new possibilities, and can be further improved.
